Bio

For more than 20 years Williams worked as a set & lighting designer as well as a technical director for theatres throughout Canada.

In Toronto he did extensive work with Theatre Passe Muraille, Factory Theatre Lab and Toronto Free Theatre. He designed sets and

lighting for original productions such as “Billy Bishop Goes To War”,“1837”and “Them Donnellys”.

Moving to Vancouver, he designed for Tamanous Theatre and City Stage. In addition to designing, Paul served as technical director at

The Vancouver East Cultural Centre. He was also the technical director for the Xerox International Amphitheatre at Expo ‘86. Later he taught design

and technical theatre at Malaspina College in Nanimo BC.

Williams retired from the theatre in 1992 to pursue his passion for sailing. He sailed his 35’ Cheoy Lee Lion sloop, “Simba 1” from Vancouver to

Hawaii before sailing back to San Diego, California where he met his future wife, Diana Moser. In 1996, Paul & Diana sailed south from San Diego

to Costa Rica and Panama. They transited the canal and spent the next ten years living aboard and sailing in the Caribbean and Atlantic, which

included many trips to Nova Scotia. Diana continued to “commute” to San Diego while working as a stage manager for the LaJolla Playhouse

and The Old Globe theatres.

Having fallen in love with Nova Scotia, they decided to buy a home in East LaHave, NS in 2006. At that time Paul turned his full attention to

photography. Diana stopped commuting and became a permanent resident in 2013. In 2014, a year after starting Haresign Photo Works,

Paul became a member of Halifax’s ViewPoint Co-Op Photography Gallery.

Paul’s photographic works are in private collections throughout the United States and Canada.  His work is for sale in the following Nova Scotia locations:
